What is Bao Shi?

The appeals court did not rule that Baldwin or Bridge Capital owes Laos the money. Instead, it said the lower court must hear Laos’ argument that they should be responsible for awards made against the companies they allegedly controlled.

That sends the sprawling Savan Vegas dispute back to court once again, 14 years after it began.

Laos attorney David Branson told Law360 the government has been trying to collect the awards for more than seven years and said the latest ruling had cleared a “path to recovery.”

Powerball will next be drawn this Saturday (Sept. 19) with an estimated jackpot of $298 million up for grabs. The cash option is at $126.6 million.

Tonight (Sept. 18), the Mega Millions jackpot is $244 million, with the cash at $103.5 million.

The odds of winning Powerball are 1 in 292.2 million. The Mega Millions jackpot odds are 1 in 290.4 million.

It could, therefore, take quite a bit longer than the timing of the initial filing indicates. The CFTC would have to publish its action and solicit public comment after White House review before writing a formal proposed rule. Any final rule would have to undergo another review and comment period before it could take effect. 

The distinction matters for crypto businesses. The filing shows regulatory work is moving forward, but exchanges and other market participants cannot yet consider it a set of rules they must adhere to. 

The CFTC’s move also comes as other US regulators continue to craft their own crypto policies. The agency and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) jointly issued an interpretation in March on how certain crypto assets would be treated under federal securities laws.
